Aaarggh, matey! 🏴‍☠️

BUTTERSCOTCH PUDDING,
THAT'S WHAT

Happy National Butterscotch Pudding Day! I guess. I dunno. Pudding is pretty far down my list of desserts, and butterscotch is a distant 2nd or 3rd behind vanilla and chocolate for me as far as traditional pudding flavors go. But maybe you adore pudding, and especially the butterscotch variety, in which case huzzah! Today is YOUR day!

However, if you're like me, you're probably much more eager to celebrate National Meow Like A Pirate Day (or its lesser, human-focused derivative Talk Like A Pirate Day — *yawn*). Regardless of which branch of the animal kingdom's family tree you hail from, you'll definitely want to brush up on your piratical growl if you plan to take on the kraken!
Ironically, my dear, departed bad cat Bigby meowed like a pirate as a matter of course, and also never met a dairy (or dairy-imitating) dessert he would not scarf down with gusto, so were he still trundling around this mortal coil he would be very pleased today! Perhaps I'll pour a butterscotch pudding cup out in his ornery honor.

OK, now that we've greased the skids with some pirate pudding (that sounds like something gross), let's have some birthday cake for the following celebrants!

1911: British novelist, playwright, poet, and Nobel prize laureate William Golding, best-known for his oft-assigned debut novel Lord of the Flies, is born.

1922: American author and critic Damon Knight, whose short story 'To Serve Man' was adapted into one of the greatest Twilight Zone episodes ever, is born.

• 1928: Actor Adam West, best-known for struggling to get rid of comically over-sized explosive devices, is born.

• 1934: English businessman and the original manager of The Beatles Brian Epstein is born.
• 1952: Guitarist, songwriter, and producer Nile Rodgers is born. Best-known as the co-founder and guitarist of the Disco-era group Chic, he also co-wrote and co-produced Diana Ross's epic 1980 album Diana, as well as David Bowie's 1983 juggernaut Let's Dance, Madonna's 1984 album Like A Virgin, played on Steve Winwood's 1986 smash single "Higher Love," and co-produced the B-52's 1989 classic Cosmic Thing, not to mention the soundtracks for body horror classic The Fly and holiday heart warmer Gremlins. Basically, Mr. Rodgers had in hand in almost every nostalgic music touchstone from 1977 - 1990.
• 1963: English singer-songwriter and guitarist Jarvis Cocker, best-known as the primary songwriter and singer of Britpop legends Pulp, is born. He is anything but common people.

• 1973: Gram Parsons, Americana/country-rock pioneer, dies at the age of 26. Before his body could be returned to New Orleans for a formal burial by his family, his friends stole his corpse from LAX and drove it to Joshua Tree National Park, where they cremated it by way of a giant gasoline-fueled fireball. I guess that's one way to make a big exit!

1. What's your actual day job and what's your dream day job?

I don’t want to sound cheesy but they are the same. I actually work my dream job. I am the Founder and CEO of Annie Leib, LLC, an executive coaching company. I work with senior executives globally to help guide them to find their most authentic selves and make more impact as leaders. It’s the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done besides being a mom.

2. What keeps you up at night?

I want to keep my business growing and thriving. I believe every successful small business owner feels the same way an athlete feels – I want to keep performing. I want to keep doing better. I want to continue to make an impact. I don’t want these efforts to run dry. I don’t want this to end. But that said, I’m a REALLY good sleeper. So not much keeps me up. 😊

3. What's the most useful piece of advice you've ever received?

"Annie, you are the most incredible combination of power and vulnerability in a human. NEVER change who you are for anyone.

"
4. Where can the rest of the Boredwalk community find you?

I am usually on my fave platform ever – LinkedIn. Come say hi!
