Boredwalk Community: Rescuing Parrots and The Truth About Arizona

Amber in her Born to Roam shirt

Welcome to our weekly Boredwalk Community series, where we ask Boredwalk fans fun questions! This week we're talking to Amber P. of Gilbert AZ, who's looking sharp in a Born to Roam tee.

1. What's your actual day job and what's your dream day job?

I am a tower structural analyst. I work in the engineering field on wireless communications towers to help ensure that they are safe and meet compliance regulations when carriers do equipment upgrades. I specifically deal with the NorCal market, so we have a lot of seismic requirements and jurisdiction regulations. My dream job would be something along the lines of a conservation biologist. I think it is important to help protect and preserve our environment and its animals. (Ed. note: We couldn't agree more!)

2. What are you proud of?

I am a board member of one of the largest parrot sanctuaries in the country. I am proud to be a part of an amazing team that helps care for almost 800 animals that otherwise do not have a place to call home. (Fun fact: a group of parrots is called a "pandemonium", which is definitely what it sounds like when the feral red-crowned parrots near my house start wilin' out every morning and evening.)

3. You can curse a nemesis with a minor annoyance; what do you choose?

Endless mosquitoes.

4. Clear up a misconception (about your job, where you're from, or some other topic you know a lot about.)

I live in Arizona. It's not always 110 degrees outside (it just feels that way in the summer.) We do have lakes. It does actually snow here, too.

5. Where can the rest of the Boredwalk community find you?

On Instagram at either @arizona_parrots or @oasis_sanctuary.
