Got a beef to squash? 🥩

TODAY'S YOUR LUCKY DAY, THEN

Happy National Acorn Squash Day! Why you'd be excited to celebrate acorn squash on September 7th when it is entirely too hot to turn on the oven to prepare said squash is beyond me, but here we are.
This is typically where I'd place a thoughtfully-selected GIF referencing acorn squash and the excitement it engenders, but apparently the closest we can get are GIFs about pumpkin and zucchini.
See?! No one cares to celebrate you, acorn squash. Pathetic.

Step up your game, you low-energy vegetable!

Alright, let's dispense with veggies and consume some virtual cake in honor of these notable birthday boys/girls/persons/events before we dive into those sweet links!
• Though it was first settled in 1625, it was on this day in 1630 that the town of Boston, Massachusetts was officially founded/incorporated. Happy birthday, Boston!
• On this day in 1860, American folk artist Anna Mary "Grandma Moses" Robertson was born. I was never a huge fan, but my grandmother was, and I have to give props to anyone who can begin a successful art career at the age of 78. It's never too late!
• On this day in 1936 early rock 'n roll icon Buddy Holly was born.
• On this day in 1940 Italian filmmaking legend Dario Argento was born.
• On this day in 1947 disco queen Gloria Gaynor was born. Lucky for us she continues to survive!
• On this day in 1951 singer-songwriter and Pretenders founder Chrissie Hynde was born. Hopefully she gets to celebrate with some worthy tattooed love boys, should she so desire.
• On this day in 1953 keyboardist and singer Benmont Tench of Tom Petty's longtime backing band The Heartbreakers was born.
• Finally, it was on this day in 1963 that rapper, producer, and N.W.A co-founder Eric "Eazy-E" Wright was born.

Alright, you've waited long enough — on to the links!

1. Vampire...cats?

We've been following Instagram cats @MonkAndBean for a while now, and wouldn't you know that these fang-tastic felines are having their content shared around the web without due credit to their original account? Boredwalk, sadly, knows all too well what that's like. Always remember to credit the creators of the content you enjoy!

2. Sure, this is corny, but...

...I seldom tire of watching cute critters munching on things. Check out Rico the Brazilian porcupine nomming on some corn at the Cincinnati Zoo!

3. Prefer your animal humor to be a bit more sophisticated and mildly extinct?

Perhaps you'll enjoy the standup stylings of this Tyrannosaurus rex?

4. Intrusive thoughts tend to have exclusive control over my brain

Comedian Connor DeWolfe seems to struggle with this as well. At least I'm not alone, I guess?

5. Self-care routine need some shaking up?

The Boredwalk creator team has some ideas to try on for size.

OK! We'll be back here in your inbox on Friday with updates, more nonsense holidays to dissect, more notable birthdays to celebrate, and more witty content in general. Don't miss it! Until next time...

Peace, love, and acorn squash (I guess),

Matt
