🥱 I'm gonna need an extra cup ☕

MAYBE EVEN TWO!

It feels like it's been forever since I was in the driver's (typer's? writer's?) seat as far as writing Boredwalk "marketing" emails. In reality it's only been a few weeks, but I hope that our fearless co-founder Meredith has kept you in stitches (the fun kind) in my absence.

I should also clarify that last statement. I haven't really been absent. Far from it! I've actually been at Boredwalk HQ every day for the last 25 working hard on the many (many, many, many) illustrations for our next book. Who needs days off? Not this guy!

I finished the last couple pages yesterday morning, and next week is all about designing the cover before we send files to the printer. We're extremely excited to share it with you, and with any luck we'll have those ready for your hot little hands by mid-June!

As you can see up top, you can whet your appetite in the interim with these brand-spanking-new 11 oz. coffee mugs, emblazoned with a couple of our most popular designs!

We only have a couple dozen of each right now — with a few more designs on the way that we'll share in the coming weeks — but if they do well over the coming days we'll make more designs available in the future, and in greater quantities. If they don't, I guess the lucky so-and-so's who order the mugs we do have will possess a pretty rad limited edition conveyance for the hot beverages of their choice. Either way, get 'em while you can!

Speaking of money, how's this for a tone-deaf silly observance given the current economic climate? Today is National Be A Millionaire Day. According to the description thereof, the thinking behind this day isn't telling us to just magically have a million dollars in our respective bank accounts — wouldn't that be nice! — but rather to treat ourselves to fancy things we normally can't afford like spa days and spendy meals at Michelin-starred restaurants as a way to indulge in aspirational thinking.

Sounds like a scam dreamed up by actual millionaires as a way to squeeze even more money out of the rest of us, but what do I know? I'm just a guy who drives a 12 year old Honda to work every day hoping to eventually scrape together enough money selling funny art and phrases on useful products to not have to rent forever. #LivingTheNightmare

Today is also National Rescue Dog Day and National Endangered Species Day. Wonderful! More reminders of humanity's general malfeasance toward the world around it. If you happen to have rescued a dog (or other companion animal) over the course of your life, thank you for your service!

Today is also National Bike to Work Day, which is a timely suggestion given the price of gas. Plus, I bet the polar bears, Siberian tigers, Mexican wolves, blue-throated macaws, and assorted lemurs and other at-risk critters would appreciate it. Giant pandas, though...I'm losing patience with you! Stop munchin' and start humpin'!

It's not all dystopian occasions today, though! Saving the best (or at least, the least-depressing) for last, today is also National Pizza Party Day! Yay!

What's that? Today is also National Quiche Lorraine Day? Sorry, we've already moved on from horrible holidays no one asked for. Try again next year.

Alright, here's a small sampling of things that happened on May 20ths of the past:

• Singer/actress/cross-generational icon Cher (1946), actor James Stewart (1908), actor Timothy Olyphant (1968), and rapper Busta Rhymes (1972) were all born today. Happy birthday to them! Especially Busta. I do not want him to get me (or anyone else) in check, nor do I want him sending the Flipmode Squad after me.

• It was also on this day in 1874 that Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis patented blue jeans, which have since become one of the most popular types of trousers worldwide.

• On this day in 1609 Shakespeare's Sonnets were first published in London by publisher Thomas Thorpe.

• Finally, on this day in 1983 The Police released their single "Every Breath You Take," which went on to become one of the creepiest Billboard Song of the Year winners of all-time.
