Talking with Dr. Venture himself, James Urbaniak!
What an embarrassment of riches this week! Not only do we have THREE awesome new designs to suit your sartorial needs — including the one above; scroll further to see the other two — but Meredith and I had the distinct pleasure to be joined on the podcast by actor James Urbaniak!
Even if you don't necessarily know him by name, many of you have either seen his face on your TV screen in his roles as Arthur Tack on Hulu's Difficult People and Grant Grunderschmidt on Comedy Central's Review, or heard his voice on the hit Adult Swim show The Venture Brothers as (among others) Dr. Thaddeus Venture, Rusty Venture, Dr. Jonas Venture, Jr., Phantom Limb, Major Tom, David Bowie (yes, that David Bowie), Oscar Wilde (yes, that Oscar Wilde), and many others.
He's also known for the roles of Simon Grim in the film Henry Fool, and his portrayal of underground cartoonist R. Crumb opposite Paul Giamatti in the excellent Harvey Pekar biopic American Splendor! Phew — that's a lot of quality acting!
We discuss James' career, the time he (lovingly) heckled David Letterman during a taping of Late Night and it ended up getting him some screen time as a fresh-faced teenager, his hilarious side project Topic A, wherein he dissects cultural phenomenon like the concept of "jumping the shark", and his radio play podcast Getting On With James Urbaniak, among many other things!
We also got James to play along and provide his own answers to some of our recent Question of the Day posts on Facebook & Instagram, and were joined near the end by his wife, animator Sara Pocock, for a delightful cameo. We also read some of your Question of the Day responses! Enjoy!
As mentioned last week, we're a little sad today to say goodbye to Scarlett as she moves on from the Boredwalk team, but excited to have a good reason to bring in some rad donuts from Donut Friend to send her off!
Oh, and as mentioned, here are the other new designs from this week! If you're in a shopping mood, don't forget to save 15% on orders of $75 or more with the code LOVE15 at checkout! First up: Fiends With Benefits!
And finally, a little something for those of us stricken with a crippling case of ennui — Just Another Manic Meh Day:
We'll be back next week with more new designs and a fresh podcast episode. We hope you have a fabulous weekend, and as always...
Peace, love, and tacos,
