💪 Want to be someone's hero? 😱

GET YOUR HOLIDAY SHOPPING DONE EARLY! 🛍️

Happy National Hero Day! Sure leaping tall buildings in a single bound is an unrealistic goal, but you can still impress your loved ones in some small way by getting started on your holiday shopping ASAP. I say this not just as your (maybe) favorite purveyor of fun creative goods, but also as a human with a close-up view of how nightmarish holiday shipping delays and inventory shortages are going to be this year. Don't say we didn't warn you.*

*I bet you're thinking "pffft, 2020's holiday rush wasn't as bad as people thought it would be, and there are vaccines and stuff now! How bad can 2021 be in comparison?" My answer: I don't know how bad it will be, but I DO know it will be worse. There is currently a zig-zagging line of container ships 40 miles long off the coast of Long Beach and Los Angeles waiting to unload Tickle-me-Lil Nas X-es (or whatever the Veruca Salts of the world are demanding this year) with no docking date in site. Roll the dice on procrastination at your peril!

As you can see, we've released a new set of kitchen towels (see image above) featuring some of the things I've written that you all seem to enjoy. (Or at least claim to in the comments of our posts on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.)

I know, I know — "put it on a shirt!" Some things I write are just too text heavy for good logo design. Besides, do you really want some nosy so-and-so staring at your shirt long enough to read an entire paragraph? Keep it moving, Gladys, I'm not in the produce aisle to make friends, unless it's with some especially sweet-looking citrus.

The nice thing about our kitchen towel sets is they not only make great functional decor, but they're one size fits all, so they're perfect gifting items if you don't know someone's size or you know someone who'd appreciate our humor but isn't into t-shirts.

So impressed

Your loved ones when they unwrap their new shirts, kitchen towels, Grievance Journals, and other goodies that you smartly ordered way ahead of time! Probably.

No new podcast episode this week. We have some fun interviews ready to share with you, but we got so busy working on much overdue new art that we didn't have time to edit.

The good news is we have new art ready for next week, already registered with the Copyright Office (because people are obsessed with stealing our art) and several new pieces in process. We'll take it out with a few famous birthday shout outs below:

Born on this day in years past...

• Actors: Matt Damon (1970), Sigourney Weaver (1949), and Chevy Chase (1943)

• Musicians/singers: Bruno Mars (1985) and Johnny Ramone (1948)

Birthday shoutouts are also due for civil rights activist/politician Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. (1941) and Chevy Chase birthday twin/horror author for the kids R.L. Stine (1943)

It was also on this day in 1971 that John Lennon released his mega-hit single "Imagine." I am neither a fan of The Beatles nor Lennon's solo work, but my dear creative partner and Boredwalk co-founder Matt is, and no doubt considers this an important piece of pop culture history. I'm imagining a world in which Matt doesn't subject me to Beatles songs on our next road trip.**

Lastly, today is World Octopus Day, so if you run across any of these fascinating creatures be sure to give 'em a high-eight. 🙌 🙌 🙌 🙌

** Matt the Editor here: sure, you can have one Beatles-free road trip, as a treat.

Alright! We'll be back here in your inbox next week with a fresh Boredwalk Community Q&A with a fan just like you (assuming some recent volunteers get us their answers and selfies in time)! We'll also have another new podcast episode to share, and a new design! Until then...

Peace, love, and punctual gifting,

Meredith
